Cyberpunk Is A State Of Mind
Cyberpunk is a state of mind. I put these mono shades on and BAM! I'm in a Cyberpunk state of mind. A few neon colors here, a glitchy graphic there and you got it. Don't forget the smirk! Go heavy on the smirk to express unhappy contempt for society and whatever dystopian existence you find yourself in.
Don't mistake my enthusiasm for the Cyberpunk genre as anything other than a casual admiration for Cyber // add whatever you like after or leave it as is. Cybernaught, Cyberspace, Cyberdood, CyberCyber... you catch the drift?
One can't participate online whether that be via blogging, gaming, lurking or writing in forums or I dare say, even maintaining a presence on Facebook or Twitter... If you are doing those things then you are participating in Cyberspace activities. I was in the midst of Cyberpunk once upon a time, I mean I was knee deep and swallowed up by it with the likes of Captain Crunch, Cereal Killer and all the Legion of Doom... I was there and none of us even considered stepping out of the moment and looking back inside and thinking "We are what is being written about".
But we carved our mark into the electronic edifices of Cyberspace. Now, those structures are gone. The original buildings, the foundations upon which we now have Cyberspace and Cyberpunk and oh yes, CyberCyber no less... Are gone, dilapidated ruins that are only accessible via electronic archives. I attempt here to preserve, I activate whatever remaining synapses I have left in my brain and put pen to paper so to speak, keyboard to monitor? < yeah, I do that and I attempt to create/recreate possibly procreate, the times, the place, the people, the moment in time we shared. But I am both not Cyberpunk and fully Cyberpunk.
I asked recently in an online forum what everyone thought being Cyberpunk was on a personal level. So far a couple responses were interesting. Us four and no more. It seems that many people in life, no matter where you find yourself. It could be in a garage discussing engines or at the roller rink discussing skates, and there will always be, ALWAYS BE those who feel that they hold the keys to the doors that open and reveal the knowledge and definition of whatever topic is at hand.
I was told to read up on the subject! Hearty laugh. Now how am I going to read up on the subject when I'm in the process of still writing the book on it! Ok, what is the point of this rambling diatribe? My point is, Cyberpunk is a state of mind and only the person who thinks the thought for themselves has the true knowledge and right to define it. Perhaps people don't understand the question?
It's the same old, tired routine and why I don't like forums in particular. Once in awhile you happen upon a good one, but not often, not hardly ever.
